Nectarpool is a journey into the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Through the eyes of a displaced traveller, this misty and atmospheric depiction of the Temple portrays the introspection, quietude and calm embodied in its brick and marble, and the love of a people drawn to it in a vast, unending tide.
The work explores themes of peace, community and kinship – contemporary issues for the public to contemplate in times of fragmentation and international unrest.
Photographed by Dr Mandeep Singh, the exhibition will be held on the 9th Floor Promenade, National Library Board, from 16 April – 10 May 2006. It will be officially launched on 15 April 2006 by Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for Health, and Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts.
Dr Mandeep’s travels to India have compelled him to bring something back to share with the local audience. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Dr Mandeep has made Singapore his home for the past 15 years and is training to become an eye surgeon. Through this exhibition, he hopes to encourage youths to energise the local arts scene by drawing from their diverse backgrounds, and to use their culture as capital. He believes that unity begins with understanding. This is his first solo exhibition.
