Sell-out crowd at YSA’s maiden family play, “Khoj – In Search Of…”
A record crowd of 900 Sikhs and non-Sikhs attended the maiden play by YSA, “Khoj – In Search Of…”, on 19 August 2005. The word “Khoj” means “search” and, where the play is concerned it implies “search within one’s self”. As most north Indian words, it is a word common to Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
“Khoj – In Search Of…” is a dramatic story of three families in the modern era, each with its own set of problems, issues and challenges. The play showed how each family addresses them. The theme is the importance of family bond. It is a lively and entertaining drama about filial piety. It was a touching effort to show that life’s problems and challenges can be overcome if family members stay together and support each other.
Targeted at the individual, the family and the community, the play reflected the importance each entity plays in ensuring that there is harmony in their common relationship. It was also a chance for the budding actors to exhibit there talent as also to educate the audience on the importance filial respect and the value of family relationships – how challenges of life can be overcome if families stay united in an enduring spirit of love, understanding and respect. Among the guests were Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts, and Health; Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, and Advisor, Young Sikh Association (Singapore); His Excellency Mr Sajjad Ashraf, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Singapore; and Mr Ravi Bangar, India’s Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore.
Everyone had an exciting and entertaining evening, with many requests for such plays to be made an annual affair.
