YSA raises funds for mentorship programme for needy children

In addition to strengthening Singapore's social fabric and promoting a healthy lifestyle, YSA used its 9th 'Racial Harmony' 4-A-Side Football Tournament on 11 February 2012 to raise funds for a needy cause - the launch of a mentorship programme for children of less privileged families.

The mentorship programme will be managed by the Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC). The Council formulates the overall community policies with respect to, and is the chief agency that delivers, welfare services to needy Sikhs in Singapore. It works in consultation with the Sikh Advisory Board and other Sikh institutions to carry out regular needs assessments to improve the quality of welfare programmes.

Mr Michael Palmer, Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Punggol East, witnessed the presentation of a cheque of $16,100 by the Association's President, Mr Hernaikh Singh, to SIWEC's Chairman, Mr Jagjit Singh Sekhon. The money was raised by YSA from friends and well-wishers from within and outside the Sikh community. The cause was worthy and the donors were delighted to support it.

The funds raised shall be used to train and professionally equip the mentors for the programmme. At the same time, it will be used for the administrative management of the programme.

We would like to thank all the donors for their generous contributions for the programme. It is much appreciated.

Together with the donors, YSA is delighted to support this initiative. After all, YSA's mission is fulfilling aspirations.
